It’s 2021, Blogs Aren’t Dead
…Isn’t that what we hear from internet marketing gurus every year?
If you think about it, the perception makes a lot of sense. Relatively speaking, blogs are not a new medium of communication. They first appeared in the 1990s and began hitting the mainstream in the early 2000s—the same time Nokia cell phones were all the rage. With the rapid advancements in technology since the inception of the blog, it wouldn’t seem like they’d be much use to marketers over two decades later in 2021.
However, perception and reality do not always align. If you look at the data, it’s clear that blogs aren’t dead. In fact, the numbers show just the opposite.
Blogs Increase ROI
As a small business owner, you know that when it comes to marketing, or any other business activity, seeing a return on investment is what matters. According to HubSpot, marketers that prioritize blogging see 13x the ROI of businesses that don't.
Lead Generation
At the end of the day, the whole purpose of your online presence is to maintain your relationship with current customers and to grow your business by forming new ones. DemandMetric found that companies with blogs produce an average of 67% more leads monthly than companies that don't blog. Another benefit blogs provide is that they are easily sharable on social media, which gives your business even more visibility online.
Improves SEO Rankings
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is what allows your business to be more visible in search engines and drives more traffic to your website. Businesses that blog get 55% more website visitors than businesses that don't. In addition, websites with blogs have 434% more indexed webpages than those that don’t.
There are many actions you can take in terms of increasing your SEO rankings or blogging to boost your score:
Keeping your website fresh and current;
Having people stay on your website longer;
Targeting long-tail keywords;
Creating opportunities to perform internal linking; and
Giving external sites more of a reason to link back to your site as well.
