Must-Know Facebook Changes of 2021
So much has already changed in 2021. This year will shake the ad tech industry to its core. Facebook, are you trying to scare business away?
Facebook has made some drastic changes to your Facebook Page; it’s optional for now. The "Like" button for pages will go away, leaving "Followers" as the only option.
Read Facebook’s blog on the New Page Experience. So, what does this mean?
Make sure you tell your page audience about the changes, anyone who has liked your page but has not followed it will be lost.
Optional, for now, on Facebook. Translation: this will be implemented to all accounts this year; history and data never lie.
What happens to Page likes when I transition to the new Pages experience?
If someone likes and follows your classic Page, they will continue to be a follower for the new Page and added to your total follower count.
If someone likes your classic Page, but does not follow it, they will not transfer to your new Page as a follower.
If someone follows your classic Page, but does not choose to like it, they will still transfer to your new Page as a follower.
Page likes will not be supported on your new Page, and Page like count will no longer be accessible.
The new features are not all bad. I love having a separate page feed from my personal profile. This is a nice feature that allows you to quickly toggle between your personal account and the Pages you manage.
“Your new Page News Feed will be separate from your personal profile. You can follow different Pages and profiles to curate a unique experience for your News Feed on the new Page. Anyone with full control will see this News Feed.”
The update also includes a nice feature for allowing other people to have full control or partial access. Partial access is a great way to give specific permissions to your employees or partners on a selective basis.
Facebook also announced the largest ever removal of accounts in their December 2020 Inauthentic Behavior Report (published on January 12, 2021). These accounts were deemed inauthentic with the purpose of manipulating people with false information.
Additionally, Facebook has introduced a new version of the "Access Your Information" page. Click here to view yours. You might be surprised to see what Facebook knows about you!
